whapples News

We recently said goodbye to two of our Board members from the business community. Both Sharon Glendinning and Trevor Jones have moved on to pastures new. We would like to thank them for the help and advice they have provided since the beginning of the project.

Their departure meant we had openings for new members and we are pleased to welcome Amanda Hannah from Dumfries and Galloway Chamber of Commerce, Richard Gauld, a local tree specialist and Andrew Wood, local councillor. We look forward to working with them all.

As well as members of the business community we welcomed some new pupil members too. They are Annanbelle Guthrie, Bethany Krease, Ewan Robertson and Gregor Hiddleston. We also look forward to working with you.

whapples AGM

Our Annual General Meeting took place on Monday 22 September, it was very well attended.

The meeting started with the approval of the previous AGM minute. Our main focus was the election/re-election of office bearers. Both Ben and Ian stated they were happy to continue in their roles. Ben as Chair and Ian as Treasurer. Both were proposed and seconded. The role of Secretary was also up for election-Lucy put herself forward, she was proposed and seconded. The constitution will be updated to reflect any changes.
Ben gave his report as Chair. Lots had gone on throughout the year:-
Replacement trees had been planted by the Forestry and Eco Group pupils.
We welcomed 3 new adult board members - Andrew Wood who is a local councillor, Amanda Hannah from the Dumfries Chamber of Commerce and Richard Gauld who is a local tree surgeon, we look forward to working with them.
We held an Easter fundraiser.
Two working days took place to carry out essential maintenance in the orchard.
We worked with Homer Young, a local architect on plans for the landscaping of the orchard.
We have been in discussion with Anderson Engineering about the design of our sponsor wall to recognise the people who have very kindly sponsored trees.
Two new S2 board members were recruited following a successful application and interview process.

Ian gave his report and informed those present that the year end accounts had been audited and signed off.

The meeting was drawn to a close.
